Union Foundry T0001 “Rotafixer”

Union Foundry T-0001 Roto-Fix Tool from Paper Fortress on Vimeo.

The result of over a year of collaborative design, prototyping, manufacturing, and finishing efforts, the Union Foundry Rotafixer is a revolutionary travel tool that allows the user to remove and install track cog lockrings with only a bicycle’s drivetrain.  In addition, it offers the home or shop user added leverage and safety via the use of the tool and a chainwhip, meaning no more busted knuckles or chipped lockrings.

The extremely limited VIP release of the tool featured a cohesively designed packaging compendium created by Micheal Dacey from Repeat Press and an exclusive buffalo plaid polish cloth via a collaboration with Penfield.

Ease of use and portability are the icing on the cake of this homegrown tool.  Locally milled from military-grade stainless steel, hand polished to a mirror finish, and black laser-etched, the Rotafixer is an example of purpose-driven local design and production.  Conceived in neighborhood bars, hashed out in the studios and kitchens of friends, prototyped and tested on the streets of Boston by couriers, machined in Cambridge, polished in Somerville… every trip taken by the tool was inside UF staff’s messenger bags.  Open Bicycle is proud to offer this groundbreaking tool from this Somerville-based start-up.

Standard edition T0001-0A (same finish and Repeat Press vellum package, without Penfield polish cloth) available only through OPEN:
