Our boy Nao kept us in the 2008 Keirin Grand Prix loop over the holidays even though he was stateside. Here are a few images that I found on the Ways&Means blog – I haven’t been able to dig up much more than the photos they took, if anyone does have more, please share!
Here we go kids, Jacob of Jacobs Bicycles is preparing for the second installment of Pony Up. This year’s race was a huge success and next year it’s expected to be even bigger! Sponsors include Outlier, Trash Bags, the BBMA, and Open Bicycle. Make sure to be in Boston on Saturday, January 10. The race format’s simple: bet on the fastest racer; win lots of cash. Check out the flier for details:
Its free! Its free! Grab the 2nd issue of Fixed Mag here. Its great to see some familiar faces showing up in the pages… Who knows, you might see something from Open Bicycle makes its way across the pond for publication one day.
The NYC fixed-gear/design/architecture authority John “Prolly” Watson has posted a nice little write-up on his blog, Prolly Is Not Probably, detailing our upcoming Poker Race, the Royal Flush! If you are checking OPEN’s blog, you know how much we dig Prolly’s wide-reaching scope. He integrates the bike-centric urban lifestyle with the world of art and ideas with the fine sensibilities of an accomplished (yet grounded) aesthete. Never mind that Bike Snob NYC regularly pokes fun of him, in fact, I can think of no greater flattery. C’mon, BSNYC, we huck our pista-bred bikes off things and think barspinzzz are cool; roast us!
Good Looks to our favorite bearded comrad, Frank ‘The Butcher’, for putting the poster on his Highsnobiety column. He dropped a nice quick story about the bike-hungry neighborhood he lives in, our ROYAL FLUSH event and the work that we’ve been putting in around town!
A lot of people around town don’t really understand how much serious work Frank actually puts in – his day runs 9-to-Never. Keeping Concepts at a full sprint, words on the pages of Vapors, his Blog fresh, Family smiling and all of the other kids happy has been motivation for me and the rest of our OPEN crew. Peace Frank. We’ll get you on a bike soon enough…
…and his beard really would make Abe Lincoln jealous!
