BikeBlogNYC Interview

Michael Green, blogger supreme at BikeBlogNYC, just posted up a little interview we did last week about the BFF and Boston.  If you’re not regularly reading his far-reaching insights into urban cycling, culture, events, and advocacy, you should be.  Full text after the jump.

Street Sign Hack

I saw this ingenious idea that’s being implemented in Barcelona- street sign bike rack converters.  The two piece steel halves are bolted together with shear bolts and effectively transform an existent street sign post or meter into a secure bike locking point.  The brightly powdercoated design stands out and signals the availability of bicycle parking spaces.  As the Wired article notes, the most impressive feature of this very smart urban space hack is perhaps the fact that it legitimizes an activity that normally occupies a legally gray area, e.g. locking a bike to whatever permanent structure one can find on the street… Mayor Menino, Ms. Freedman: take note?

OATH Opens at Chorus Gallery

web1

Boston-based ex-courier and painter Clark Filio is opening his new show, OATH, at Chorus Gallery on Saturday, November 14th.  The reception commences at 7p and will feature the usual coterie of wonderful people, cold drinks, and smooth vinyl sounds from Coatti Mondi.  Clark’s work evokes a broad exploration of the human spirit and the multiplicity of shapes it takes through our forms and bodies.  Bring friends who love art, bring some coin to purchase his paintings and drawings, and join us to celebrate life and appreciate the wonder and complexity we swim in.

Hot Wheels

Our good friend and customer Craig had his wheelset lifted last night over at the BU dorms.  Some scumbag apparently thought that a red/blue, radial/double-twisted handbuilt wheelset would be a non-flashy addition to their bike.  Velocity rims, MSW front, NMSW rear, Miche high-flange hubs, DT Comp silver spokes.  I built the wheels and signed my name and the build date inside the rim, by the valve stem drilling.  If you see these, call the police (a report has been filed) and call OPEN- 617.666.6736.  Thanks!
