Years back, we skateboarded. As we aged, many of us gave up skateboarding when the rewards started to be outweighed by the injuries. But we retained our love of adreneline and risk. We started riding fixed gears in traffic, became messengers, then discovered velodromes, onto road racing and ultimately cyclocross.
Personally, when I see the enthusiasm of the current crop of fixed gear riders, I see my future competitors evolving along the road that many of us traveled.
That said, get in touch this spring if anyone wants an introduction to track racing, which is the natural next step in the evolution toward race geek.
